ASQ Merrimack Valley June 2015 Section Meeting - Round-Table Discussion: Risk Based Thinking for ISO 9001:2015
ASQ Merrimack Valley Round-Table   This Round Table will provide an opportunity to learn and share best practices and challenges concerning the requirements of   “Risk Based Thinking” for ISO 9001:2015   Moderated by Angelo Scangas, Quality Support Group   "Risk Based Thinking" has been one of the most discussed topics when talking about ISO 9001:2015. In this new standard risk based thinking has been made more explicit and is built into the entire management system. ISO 9001:2015 will require risk-based thinking related to how the quality management system impacts the ability to achieve internal process objectives and organizational objectives. In addition, risk based thinking will be integrated into the organization’s ability to meet all external requirements (customer, legal, regulatory, statutory, etc.).   This round-table will include discussion on:   How does risk based thinking integrate with the process approach and drive a preventative continual improvement process? How does an organization can analyze and prioritize the risks, plan actions to address the risks, implement the plan and check effectiveness? How do you assess risks within the QMS processes? What objective evidence will be required to show that effective risk-based thinking has been implemented? Who is responsible for driving a risk-based thinking program internally? How do you measure the effectiveness of a risk-based thinking program? How do you execute a risk-based internal auditing program? What training may be required within the organization?   Join us as we discuss this very important and timely topic!      ____________________________________________________________________________________ Presentation only: Free Presentation and Buffet Dinner: $25 *Please note that there will be no refunds. 5:30 - 6:00 PM Registration 6:00 - 7:00 PM Networking and Dinner 7:00 - 8:00 PM Round-Table Discussion   Location:   Radisson Hotel and Suites Chelmsford-Lowell  10 Independence Drive Chelmsford, MA Menu: Fresh rolls and butter  Soup du jour MIxed Greens Salad Whipped garlic potatoes Green beans and carrots Chicken Piccata Roast sirloin of beef with demi mushroom sauce Chef's selection of desserts Coffee service ______________________________________________________________________________________ About the Speaker: Angelo Scangas is President of Quality Support Group, Inc., an International Consulting and Training organization. Boston August 10
Program Description: This comprehensive seminar covers the increasingly related topics of private/public cloud architecture, security/compliance, storage/backup and mobility/thin clients/vdi, with a disaster recovery/backup presentation that is especially useful after the big Noreaster/snowstorm. Angelbeat coordinates expert speakers from Microsoft, VMware, Dell, HP, Citrix, Kaspersky and other top firms - scroll down to see the agenda - who deliver concise, technical and complementary talks. Content is pre-approved by Angelbeat and past attendees to maximize learning. CISSP's and other individuals can receive 4 CPE credit hours for attending. As one Wal-Mart attendee states, "Of all the seminars I attend, your format is by far the best. Brief informative talks from vendors, followed by one-on-one time at their booth to find out more. I am out of the office for less than a day yet I have access to all the different solutions. This year I will follow up with two vendors." As another IT Director commented, "Thanks for hosting a very informative meeting with vendors that tied in well; it was an integrated picture of technologies that work together to create a complete infrastructure solution for the workplace." Watch Angelbeat CEO Ron Gerber on Youtube discuss why you should attend. Meals including a full hot lunch, self-parking and Wi-Fi are provided at no charge, with drawings for an HP Tablet, gift cards and other prizes at the end. Every attendee receives a free 6-month trial subscription to Kaspersky's retail anti-virus software. Join your peers from Fidelity, Raytheon, John Hancock, MFS, Santander, TIAA-CREF, Tufts Health, Beth Israel, Fallon Health, Town of Belmont, Interactive Data, Dassault, Biogen Idec, Wyman, Knome, Pearson, Charles River Associates, EduVentures, Voya, FIS Global, ACIS, Akamai, Admirals Bank, Cambridge Schools, Boston College, Brandeis, UMass, City of Boston, Commonwealth of MASS and many more leading organizations who are confirmed attendees. 7:30 - 9:00: Registration, Breakfast, Exhibit Area Open, Peer Networking, Product Demonstrations 9:00 - 9:15 Protection against Phishing Attacks and Advanced Persistent Threats (APT) with Kaspersky Kaspersky is the world’s largest privately held, and among the top four security vendors, operating in 200 countries and protecting 300 million users. Its mission is to provide the world's most effective, responsive and efficient protection against cyber-threats: those from malware, spam, hackers, DDoS attacks, sophisticated cyber-espionage tools, and cyber-weapons that target organization's critical IT infrastructure with potentially catastrophic consequences. Their talk will focus on protecting your IT infrastructure and confidential data against the latest and most sophisticated phishing attacks and APT's. 9:15 - 9:30: Insider Threats: Malice, Mistakes, and Mountain Lions with Varonis The recent spate of highly publicized breaches has drawn attention to one of the issues that keeps security professionals up at night – once an attacker is “inside” the network, their activities are often difficult to spot and recover from. This is true of outside attackers that compromise the credentials and systems of employees, as well as employees that are “breaking bad” or unwittingly exposing sensitive files. While capabilities in monitoring system configurations, network ingress and egress points, and endpoints have evolved steadily over the past 15-20 years, capabilities in monitoring internal data-centric activities are relatively new, particularly with respect to unstructured data. As more organizations develop capabilities to track and record activity on unstructured data, they have the opportunity to use this information to identify and prevent insider breaches and lapses and the spread of malware. This session will review the anatomy of typical outside-in attacks including infiltration, data gathering, and exfiltration, and then discuss methods and techniques for analyzing file analysis records to spot and stop potentially malicious activity from both insiders and external attackers. The session will include examples of access patterns that may be indicate snooping, malware, and exfiltration to augment your organization’s detective controls, as well as best practices to prevent and reduce potential exposure to these threats. 9:30 - 9:45: Next Generation Firewall with Dell SonicWALL and Envision Dell SonicWALL Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW) deliver superior intrusion prevention, malware protection, application intelligence and control, real-time traffic visualization and inspection for SSL encrypted sessions at the gateway by tightly integrating a patented Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection engine with multi-core hardware. Essential to an intelligent and highly adaptive security system, they scan every byte of every packet for the deepest level of network protection and massively scale to extend state-of-the-art security to growing and distributed enterprise networks. Dell NGFW provide a comprehensive layer of defense by combining gateway content filtering, anti-spam, anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention, and regain visibility into the network through application intelligence and visualization. 9:45 - 10:00: HP Helion Cloud: Build, manage and consume workloads in a hybrid IT environment The future of IT is being shaped by explosive growth in data, devices and applications, leading to the emergence of hybrid, multi-cloud architectures in which the distinction between private and public cloud is disappearing and complexity is increasing. To address the challenges of the future you need simplicity, control and responsiveness. In this session you will learn how HP Helion products and solutions enable you to: - Build your cloud your way - Manage complex, hybrid environments without vendor lock-in - Secure your IT services with predictability, reliability, and compliance - Enable your business to be more responsive, with the right economics 10:00 - 10:20: Next-Generation Data Center and Virtual Computing Platforms - Adapting Google's Architect/Strategy to your Infrastructure and Cloud Strategy - with Nutanix Nutanix delivers web-scale IT infrastructure - modeled after Google's, Amazon's and Facebook's architecture - to medium and large enterprises with its software-driven Virtual Computing Platform, natively converging compute and storage into a single solution to drive unprecedented simplicity in the datacenter. Customers can start with a few servers and scale to thousands, with predictable performance and economics. With a patented elastic data fabric and consumer-grade management, Nutanix is the blueprint for application-optimized and policy-driven cloud/data center infrastructure. 10:20 - 10:40: Dell Backup/DR/Data Protection for Physical, Virtual, Cloud Platforms with CorpIT. Lessons Learned after the Big Snowstorm/Noreaster Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity is vitally important in today's always-on world. But when data can be at rest, in use or in motion - and stored on physical, virtual and/or private/public/hybrid clouds - a cost-effective and manageable solution can be very challenging. Dell, along with its partner Corporate IT Solutions, will discuss how organizations of all sizes can meet this challenge, through its broad portfolio of scalable solutions that protect data and deliver rapid recoverability across physical, virtual and cloud environments. Its automated processes for validating and verifying the integrity of data helps ensure the success of every recovery. They will also cover: - Trends in data protection/DR/backup and how cloud, offsite hosting, big data, security/compliance requirements and an increasingly mobile workforce affects business continuity plans - The value of a common data protection/DR/backup platform that seamlessly and consistently covers legacy physical servers plus data stored on virtual/cloud platforms - Case study exmaples and lessons learned from the big snowstorm/Noreaster at the end of January. Coffee/Refreshment Break, Product Demonstrations, Exhibit Area Open, Peer Interaction 11:10 - 11:30: Primary Storage Trends, Flash Technology, Impact on Virtual Desktops, with X-IO Think that you are ready for Virtual Desktop?  Your Storage System is about to get crushed… even if it has flash. When it comes to VDI design, there are many pitfalls that can occur. This has led to a frightening statistic; for every successful VDI implementation, there are 7 to 10 that fail. The vast majority of these are due to an inappropriate storage design. While VDI can be a tremendous advantage for the business, data storage costs are the single largest component of the total solution cost and the most common cause of poor user experience and failed implementations. Furthermore, as the capacity is consumed with more hosted desktops, the available performance of almost all storage systems declines when it is needed the most. X-IO, the leader in high performance storage systems, conducts extensive testing with VDI solutions to ensure that environments based on its Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) provide superior performance and unmatched reliability, at a fraction of the cost of other solution. This session will explore the different performance demands of the VDI solution functions (and how to control them), how a “POD” based design can greatly simplify management and scalability, and how the storage architecture of the ISE system can drastically reduce the cost of the VDI solution. 11:30 - 11:50: Delivering Service, Applications, and Data to Users on Any Device: Citrix Strategies and Best Practices for Remote Users, Virtual Desktops, Windows Upgrades, and Mobility Needs End users must be increasingly mobile and productive in today's ultra-competitive marketplace, regardless of the device, location, or network. There are significant challenges however, in providing IT services, applications, data, and desktops to workers at any location, on any device, anytime, securely and effectively. To accomplish this, your infrastructure must be scalable, flexible and agile, something that is achievable with Citrix. Some of the topics by their top tri-state engineering team include desktop and application virtualization, mobility, security, and how to manage a constantly changing business environment. Citrix (NASDAQ:CTXS) is the cloud company that enables mobile workstyles. Its products are used by more than 260,000 organizations and over 100 million users globally. Annual revenues are approximately $3 billion. 11:50 - 12:10: Optimizing the user experience across virtual and physical devices with Appsense Effectively managing your users experience by ensuring that it remains productive, responsive, and secure, can significantly reduce TCO and risk, while increasing satisfaction and productivity. AppSense empowers IT to centrally manage, setup & configure, lockdown, tune, and personalize any desktop regardless of device, platform, delivery mechanism or location. This enables IT to deliver the fastest, easiest and lowest cost desktop ever. Whether your embarking on a VDI project, managing logon times and roaming profile issues, or trying to improve server density, this session will explore the ways that IT can better manage their users across any platform or device while still maintaining control over the organization's environment. 12:10 - 12:30: BYOD Bring Your Own Device, High-Speed 802.11n/ac WiFi, Access Point Architecture, the "Internet of Things", with Advizex Wireless access has evolved from a nice-to-have technology, providing access speeds of 10Mbps with minimal IT impact, to business/mission critical requiring significantly higher speeds and reliability. 50% of workers come to work with three or more devices - laptop, tablet, and smartphone - all requiring Internet access. Four and a half billion devices are expected to access WiFi networks in just two years. How do you appropriately prepare and scale your network to support this influx of devices? It is no longer simply about coverage. A robust backend/infrastructure is required to satisfy security, performance, BYOD and network administration requirements. Advizex and its partner HP will provide practical recommendations on addressing these issues, and specifically discuss the new 802.11ac WiFi standard and the value of a unified wired/wireless network management strategy. Full Hot Lunch, Exhibit Area Open, Peer Networking, Product Demonstrations 1:30 - 2:00: VMware Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) and Cloud Offering with WCA Whalley Computer, one of the top data center/cloud/virtualization experts in New England, will discuss VMware's strategy/offering/platform for private/public clouds and the software defined data center (SDC), which leverages its core expertise in virtualization in exciting new ways. SDDC Enterprises worldwide have used VMware vSphere to significantly improve IT efficiency and performance, yet the mobile cloud era presents new challenges. To meet this challenge, organizations need to virtualize the rest of the data center so all infrastructure services become as inexpensive and easy to provision and manage as virtual machines. The answer is the software-defined data center (SDDC): the ideal architecture for private, public, and hybrid clouds. Pioneered by VMware and recognized by the industry and analysts alike, SDDC extends the virtualization concepts you know - abstraction, pooling and automation - to all data center resources and services. Cloud VMware cloud solutions improve IT efficiency, agility and reliability, while helping drive innovation. They deliver everything an organization needs to build, operate, rent and manage their cloud, even beyond the data center. IT executives get the freedom and flexibility to move workloads seamlessly and securely between an onsite data center/ internal private cloud to a hybrid and/or public cloud. Leveraging cloud services from VMware and/or a certified VMware vCloud service provider, you can run your applications onsite, offsite or both, without compromise. 2:00 - 2:30 Microsoft: Azure Cloud and Infrastructure Services Microsoft Azure is an open and flexible cloud platform that enables you to quickly build, deploy and manage applications across a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. You can build applications using any language, tool or framework. And you can integrate your public cloud applications with your existing IT environment. Here are some of the major features that will be discussed by Microsoft and its partner DynTek during this informative session: - Always On: 99.95% monthly SLA enables you to build and run highly available applications without focusing on the infrastructure. - Open: Use any language, framework, or tool to build applications. Features and services are exposed using open REST protocols. The Windows Azure client libraries are available for multiple programming languages, and are released under an open source license. - Unlimited Servers and Storage: Easily scale your applications to any size. It is a fully automated self-service platform that allows you to provision resources within minutes. Elastically grow or shrink your resource usage based on your needs. You only pay for the resources your application uses. Windows Azure is available in multiple datacenters around the world. - Powerful Capabilities: Azure is a flexible cloud platform that can satisfy any application need. It enables you to reliably host and scale out your application code within compute roles. You can store data using relational SQL databases, NoSQL table stores, and unstructured blob stores, and optionally use Hadoop and business intelligence services to data-mine it. - Security, Identity and Access Management: Azure Active Directory delivers an enterprise ready cloud identity service enabling a single sign-on experience across cloud and on-premises applications. It allows multi-factor authentication for added security and compliance. End of Event, Raffle Prize Drawings for an HP Tablet, Gift Cards and other great items. Every attendee receives a free trial subscription to Kaspersky's anti-virus software.
